Record Your Desktop on Windows 11 — Free & Simple

SwiftRec is a lightweight, free screen recorder built for Windows 11 (and Windows 10). Tap a hotkey, capture your screen with audio, and save an MP4 — no sign-up, no watermark, no clutter.

Why Record Desktop on Windows 11?

Windows 11's built-in Game Bar works for quick clips, but it skips File Explorer, won't let you capture a custom region, and buries settings deep in menus. If you need to record a tutorial, document a bug, capture gameplay footage, or narrate a presentation, you need something faster.

SwiftRec gives you four capture modes: full screen, single window, free-form region, or pick a specific monitor. Start recording with a global hotkey — your current app stays in focus, nothing pops up to obstruct what you're capturing. When you stop, your MP4 lands in a local folder, ready to share or edit.

How to Record Your Desktop

  1. Extract and launch Download the ZIP, right-click it in File Explorer, pick Extract All, and open SwiftRec from the folder. No installer, no system-wide files — you can run it from your desktop or a USB stick.
  2. Choose what to capture Click Full Screen to record everything, Window to grab a single app, Region to draw a box around part of your display, or pick a specific monitor if you have multiple screens.
  3. Toggle audio tracks Click the mic icon to include your microphone (for narration), and the speaker icon to capture system audio (game sound, video playback). Both go into one MP4 file.
  4. Press the red button or your hotkey Hit the record button in the toolbar, or use the global hotkey you set up — it works even when SwiftRec is minimized. Press again to stop. Your clip saves to Videos\SwiftRec.

What You Can Do With SwiftRec

Record tutorials with mouse-click and keystroke overlays so viewers see exactly what you're doing. Add a webcam bubble for talking-head intros or reaction clips. Output as MP4 (ready for YouTube or an editor) or animated GIF (perfect for bug reports and Slack threads).

For game capture: record full screen or just the game window, mux in system audio, and export an MP4 you can upload or edit. For work: grab a region of your spreadsheet or design tool without recording your whole screen. For testing: screenshot specific windows or drawn areas as PNG files with a single keypress.

Everything stays on your computer. No cloud upload, no watermark burned into the video, no popup overlays during capture. Just a small app that runs locally, uses hotkeys to stay out of your way, and delivers clean MP4s.

Common Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. No paid tier, no trial expiration, no premium features locked behind a paywall. Download it and record as much as you want.

Do I need to sign in or create an account?

No account, no cloud sync, no login. Launch the app and start recording immediately.

Does it work on Windows 10?

Yes, SwiftRec runs on Windows 10 (64-bit) as well as Windows 11. You need .NET Framework 4.7.2, which is already installed on both.

Can I record just one window instead of the whole screen?

Yes. Select Window from the toolbar, then click the app you want to capture. SwiftRec will record only that window, even if you switch to other apps.

What format does it save in?

MP4 (H.264 codec) by default — compatible with YouTube, most video editors, and media players. You can also export as animated GIF if you prefer.

Does it need administrator rights?

No. Run it from your user folder and it works fine for normal screen and audio recording.
